When people are promoted for their technical expertise, the shift to leading others can be both exciting and challenging. Deloitte recognised that newly promoted and aspiring managers needed practical leadership support at the moment it mattered most, rather than waiting for limited, centrally delivered programmes. The aim was clear: build confident, capable leaders who could make an immediate impact.
The problem
Within Audit & Assurance (UK), Deloitte promoted many individuals based on strong technical and professional performance, but those stepping into management roles were not always supported to develop the people leadership skills required. There was a clear need for a bespoke, modular programme that could be accessed at the right time, giving new and future leaders the capabilities they needed without delay.
The solution
Working closely with Deloitte’s L&D design team, we created a set of five highly experiential online modules focused on the leadership skills that matter most early in a management career: Prioritisation & Delegation, Managing Effective Teams, Becoming a Coaching Manager, Building Great Stakeholder Relationships, and Authentic Confidence.
Each module is delivered over two half-days and combines focused input with hands-on practice. Our Skills Coaches demonstrate real leadership conversations, including active listening and effective questioning, before participants practise in their own voice and receive immediate, practical feedback.
The experiences
- Live demonstrations from Skills Coaches
- Small-group practice with feedback
- Guided self-reflection
- Deep, real-world leadership conversations
The results
Over the past three years, we have delivered more than 100 modules to approximately 1,000 new leaders across Deloitte. The programme has strengthened leadership capability at a critical transition point, helping managers step into their roles with greater confidence and make a meaningful impact from the outset.
“This programme gave me the confidence to step into my role as a manager straight away. Practising real conversations and getting honest feedback made a huge difference, and I left each module able to apply what I’d learned immediately with my team.”
